Mesotherapy

How does it work?

Fat reduction injections are a form of mesotherapy called injection lipolysis. This is a non-surgical treatment that targets the deeper layers of the skin where it dissolves small to medium unwanted localized areas of fat (stubborn fat) that diet or exercise does not get rid of. Phosphatidylcholine (PPC), an active substance naturally found in the body, is injected directly into the subcutaneous tissue where local fat deposits are destroyed, allowing the fat stores to be released. The main role of PPC is to help emulsify and break down fat and cholesterol. The treatment is best suited for areas of soft fat on the belly, love handles, double chin, the inside of the thighs, the buttocks, the back, bra bulges, the upper arms and the hips. Some areas respond better to treatment than others. In general this is related to how fibrous or tough the fat is. For example, upper tummies do not tend to do as well as lower tummies as the upper area is much more fibrous. Men have much tougher fat than women and so often will require more treatments.
One lipolysis treatment session takes about 30 - 60 minutes to complete. The number of sessions needed differs from one person to the next due to individual responses to the medication and the type of fat and area being treated. Treatments are spaced 2 weeks apart and 4 – 8 treatments are recommended.

What are the benefits?

Mesotherapy procedures are mild compared to most cosmetic treatments. Normal daily activities can commence after the procedure, depending on the amount of soreness experienced and the type of work to be done. Results are permanent when keeping a healthy diet and getting regular exercise.

Are there any side effects?

Yes, patients usually experience a slight burning sensation and a temporary feeling of light headedness during the injection. Soreness, bruising, minor allergic responses such as a rash, mild swelling and muscular pain can be present for about a week after the treatment. Small lumps that are painless, invisible and transient can also develop after the treatment. Very rarely skin necrosis can develop after the treatment.

Is it safe?

To date there have been no reports of severe adverse complications.

InBody

How does it work?

Body composition comprises of four main components namely water, protein, minerals and fat. These are the four most important components the body is comprised of and it is vital for all four to be in balance. Body composition analysis with the InBody is therefore used to quantify and measure these components.
By standing on the footplates and holding the handgrips, the InBody will measure the following:

  • Weight in kilogram is based on each individual’s height.
  • Muscle refers to skeletal muscle mass in kilogram.
  • Fat refers to body fat mass in kilogram.
  • Total Body Water (TBW) measured in litre.
  • Fat Free Mass (FFM) is measured in kilogram and equals the total weight  minus total body fat. This is any body tissue that does not contain fat, namely skeletal muscle, bone, tendons, organs, ligaments as well as body water.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) is determined by using weight and height.
  • Percentage Body Fat (PBF) indicates the percentage of body fat to body weight. The ideal is 15% for males and 23% for females.
  • Waist-Hip Ratio (WHR) means the ratio of waist and hip circumference. In cases of over 0.95 for males and over 0.90 for females, abdominal obesity is diagnosed.
  • Visceral Fat is body fat that is stored within the abdominal cavity and is therefore stored around a number of vital internal organs. A visceral fat score of 10 and above is associated with increased risks of health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the minimum energy required to maintain vital functions while at rest, like breathing, heart activity and body  temperature regulation to name a few. With a higher metabolism, fat loss is easier.
  • Segmental Lean is measured in kilogram and shows skeletal muscle mass in each segment of the body.
  • Segmental Fat  is measured in kilogram as well as percentage of body fat and shows fat mass in each segment of the body.
  • Muscle-Fat Control suggests fat and muscle control that leads to a balanced body composition. The (+) and (-) signs indicate an increase or decrease in muscle or fat mass to obtain this balance.
  • Fitness Score is an index used to understand  the state of body composition.  70 or less: weak or obese type that need exercise and diet control; 70 – 90: normal, healthy type; above 90: athletic type with well-developed muscles.
Alongside these measurements will be the appropriate recommended ranges.

What are the benefits?

Many individuals may think weight alone is a clear indication of good health. In fact this is not true, because weight alone does not differentiate how many kilograms are fat and how many are lean muscle mass. The ratio between muscle and body fat is more significant than body weight alone. Muscle are denser than fat, therefore a lean muscular person can weigh more than someone with a higher amount of body fat.
The InBody provides accurate results unique to each individual for regular monitoring to understand how diet, lifestyle and regular exercise can influence body composition. This will help achieve weight goals by tracking the progress. This is the reason why PBF, rather than weight alone, is a more accurate way to assess obesity and fitness levels.
Furthermore, by understanding body composition analysis, the numerous benefits of balanced muscle and fat mass can also be enjoyed. Increased lean muscle mass helps the body to burn off more calories and therefore increases the metabolic rate that will help with weight loss. Lean muscle also helps protect the joints and bones from injury.
A certain amount of body fat is considered important because body fat serves as a protective cushion and can be metabolized to generate heat in response to low temperatures. Too little body fat inhibits the body’s natural response and normal hormonal function. On the other hand, too much fat can lead to an increased risk of disease.

Are there any side effects?

No, but by improving your health and lifestyle, weight loss will become a welcome side effect!

Is it safe?

During the measurement an electrical current is used which is harmless to the human body. The InBody has acquired the CE and other certifications that assure the safety of the medical equipment.
